Our Mission

Learn For Life!

The El Paso Public Library Association was founded in 1900 to support El Paso Public Library’s efforts to provide reading materials to the citizens of El Paso.  Reading, literacy, and access to information were the key components of the EPPLA mission then as they are today.  EPPLA envisions the City of El Paso as a literate community that embraces and utilizes public libraries as centers of information and resources available free of charge to all members of this community.

To accomplish this mission, the Association will raise funds to promote library and literacy events such as author presentations and readings, children’s programs, and adult literacy initiatives.  The Association will also raise funds that will be granted to the library to enhance its collection with emphasis on the Southwest history and culture.  The Association will also partner with Friends of the Library groups to fund and promote reading and other special projects such as summer reading camp for specific branches.  The Association will also raise funds to provide travel and professional development for library staff.  A great part of the Association’s fundraising efforts will go towards creating scholarships for El Paso students who want to pursue a career in the library and information scene.
